LIGHTING A NEW FUNCTION WITHIN THE ORIGINAL ARCHITECTURE

The Teddy Bear Art Museum in Billund is housed in the former home of LEGO director Godtfred Kirk Christiansen and his family. Designed by architect Aage Bundgaard as a family residence and a place for receiving international business guests, the house was completed in 1959.

Between 2016 and 2018, it was transformed into a museum with respect for its original architectural character. LIK Lighting developed the lighting scheme in collaboration with the architects and project stakeholders, with responsibility for the lighting design, specification and supply. Product selection was made in collaboration with the architects, based partly on their proposals.

WARM LIGHT. TAILORED TO THE EXHIBITS

The lighting needed to support the exhibition while working within the interior concept defined by the architects. A warm colour temperature of 2700 K was selected, with colour rendering helping to preserve the colours, fabrics and details of the teddy bears and their clothing. Wide and narrow beam distributions were also used to suit the different exhibits and spatial conditions.
